Feather River Community Fund Announces 2024 Grant Awards

2024 Grant Awards Hero

The Feather River Community Fund has awarded seven grants to Plumas County organizations after reviewing applications at their November Board Meeting. Two grants were given to Dixie Fire related projects, one to The Dawn Institute to help replace facilities lost to the fire, one to The Dixie Canopy Project to assist in their work to provide trees in communities burned by the fire. Two grants were provided to organizations providing educational opportunities: one to Plumas Performing Arts to support their summer music program, the other to the Lost Sierra Food Project to assist in funding their series of summer workshops. Grants were also provided to the Plumas Sun, KQNY Community Radio and the Indian Valley Innovation Hub. All three of these organizations were start-ups in 2023, and funds are intended to help sustaining and expand their programs.

Board member Jennifer Heller chaired the meeting and provided this summary. “After reviewing all eleven excellent grant applications, our Board met to deliberate. It is always challenging to choose from so many worthy causes, and this year was no exception. We were thrilled to give over $55,000 and fund seven of the grant applications in full. We know these grants are going to have such a positive impact in our rural Feather River communities.” Heller noted that as in 2023, helping Plumas County communities and organizations recover from the Dixie Fire was a priority.

Founded in 2021, the mission of the Feather River Community Fund is to invest in natural resources and rural communities to sustain and enhance their growth, viability, and vitality. The Fund intends to continue its grant program in 2025, with a call for applications planned for September. Contributions to the fund go almost entirely to providing grants such as those awarded this year and can be made by visiting their site at https://featherrivercommunityfund.org.
